Today was employment services so we first went over the STARS method which is a simple framework. If only remembering and crafting the stories was so easy. But its a good framework to have and though some of the questions I didn’t have good ones right off the bat, trying and “failing” allowed me to come up with ideas and figure out what should be refined. Like one I tried to do an IT example but it just became a hypothetical so I decided to use something from when I worked at as a kitchen steward instead as I can actually use concrete examples.
I also had my employment services intake and worked on refining my resume. I think I look like a much better candidate now. But time will tell. At least now I won’t have a resume design that breaks when I change the text.
Then we did practice interview questions. A lot of them were difficult and required the STARS method. But I felt like regardless of my struggles, it was worth the practice. And it continues to be a great group of people who are welcoming and trying just as hard as I am to improve.
Now we have homework to work on our answer on “what do we bring to the table that other candidates don’t?” It’ll be difficult. But worth the effort.
